Many times before a hoe inspection people will ask “do you measure the house?” And it is a valid question, but a common misconception.
The home inspection is designed to find defects, make sure everything is working. It is not, however, designed to measure the home and find out its square footage. In fact, I don’t know of a home inspector SOP anywhere that includes measuring the home. So who does that?
Well, that would be your appraiser. In fact, measuring your home is one of his primary duties – as he wants to confirm the square footage for the price of the home.
