Having a playground in the backyard is a great way for parents to get their children to benefit from exercise and fresh air. You should, however, make sure that it is a place where your children will be safe, and not somewhere they will get hurt.
What can you do to avoid creating a dangerous situation for your children on the playground? Here are a few guidelines that will help.
Swings need to be far enough apart that they won’t bang into each other when swinging. A safe distance between 2 swings is 2 feet, and on top of that, it should be at least 2.5 feet between the swings and the frame.
You should also periodically check that the equipment in your playground is in good repair. Check for rust, loose bolts and that all protective covers are in place, especially where there is a pinching risk.
Having a soft surface on the playground also prevents injury.
