You don’t expect your toilet to make noise when you are not using it, but some homeowners have noticed that there are strange gurgling or bubbling noises coming from their toilet out of the blue. If this has happened to you, you probably want to know what the reason is, and what can be done about it.
The explanation is usually fairly simple. The pressure in your drain pipes needs to go somewhere, and the way that it usually travels has gotten blocked. You should have a vent pipe where gasses can escape, but if there is an animal nest or a similar blockage in this pipe, the gasses will find the easiest way out, which often will prove to be your toilet due to the bigger pipe. If you can get to the vent pipe from your roof, you should be able to clean it out, but if it is out of reach, you might need to contact a professional to take care of the blockage for you.
