First, use this FEMA Flood zone tool. Simply enter your address and it will tell you what flood risk level you are.
Second, take the time to talk to the neighbors. in addition to getting to know them, this is a great opportunity to tap into their experience with the area BEFORE you move in
Lastly, Make sure you hire a qualified, licensed home inspector (such as myself) to perform a full home inspection and look for any clues that there has been possible previous flooding.
