Unless you’re a smoker yourself, you probably aren’t a fan of the smell of smoke. Unfortunately, it is one of the most difficult smells to get out of your home if you were to buy a home from a smoker. The reason for this is that the particles that tobacco smoke consists of are so tiny that they can make it through filters that stop most everything else. They can also leave an oily film behind on surfaces in your home which will carry with it the smell. Some recommend using ozone to remove the smell, but these devices don’t always work.

More effective, but much more labor intensive, is a thorough cleaning. There are many things that need to be cleaned off well to make sure you have no traces of smoke left in your home. Lights, appliances, sometimes even walls and ceilings should be wiped down. Often you can tell when it is clean from the color of the water you use. Once it stops coming off yellow, you are done.
