What do you do when you want to put something up securely on the wall, but at the same time, you don’t want to do unnecessary damage to your walls that will require ugly patches later on? You can use an anchor.
There are many different types of anchors, and to decide on the correct type, you need to know two things: the material you are fastening the anchors into and the weight they will carry.
If you have drywall, many things can be hung just using regular plastic anchors. You will find the anchors with the recommended maximum weight they can handle listed on the package. You have the option of plastic sleeve anchors and self drilling anchors, also known as threaded anchors. Self drilling anchors are also available in metal.
If you want to mount very heavy items, it is better to try to find a stud to attach it firmly. You can find cheap stud finders in most hardware stores. Remember that even if you have anchors that can hold the weight, this doesn’t mean that your walls will hold up, and you might end up with an item that will fall off the wall and break, as well as, a gaping hole in your wall.
