Having a clog form in your pipes can be a major headache, but usually, it doesn’t show up unannounced. If you can learn to recognize the signs of a clog, you might be able to deal with it before it has settled in and built up to a size that really stops the waterflow through your pipes.
An obvious first sign is when your drain doesn’t empty out as quickly as in the past. Another sign is gurgling noises coming from the drains in your home when water goes down. This means that air is escaping ahead of the water but being pushed out other directions. In some cases, you might even notice bubbling in your toilet when water is draining somewhere else. The quicker you try to remedy the situation, the more likely you are to be able to handle the problem on your own without having to spend the money on getting the help of a plumber.
If you can clear up the clog without using drain chemicals, you’re much better off, since they can damage your plumbing, your septic tank and the environment.
