If you cook a really delicious meal on your stove-top at home, you likely have quite a bit of smoke and steam generated. You might not think too much about what happens with all that grease laden moisture, but it can do quite a bit of damage to your home if not vented correctly.

Usually, you will find a fan above your stove, but is this necessarily an adequate measure? It all depends on how the fan is installed. The fan needs to be directly above your stove or it will not function properly. It is also important that it is connected to a short, straight duct that leads to the outside. The vent should not be closer than 10 feet to any air intakes. It should also be covered in such a way that pests can’t use it to gain entry into your home. You should also replace any filters found in your kitchen fan regularly. Otherwise, they could prove to be a fire hazard.
