Are you planning to be out of town in the next couple of weeks? If so, have you taken appropriate measures to protect your home from break-ins? With burglaries and thefts being a common occurrence this time of year and with many people spending time away from home, we thought it would be a good idea to provide a few home security reminders.
Although there is so much home security technology available these days, there are other things you can do to deter a thief. For example, trim back any foliage that may be hiding your windows and doors from the view of neighbors. Thieves want to break into a house without being detected, so they are less likely to target a house with clearly visible entry points.
Another useful intruder deterrent is motion sensor lighting. For them to be effective, install one on every side of the house. if you are going to be away from home you should also leave some lights on inside the home to give the impression that someone is there.
In some neighborhoods, a homeowner will place windows bars or heavy-duty screens on their first-floor windows for additional security. While this is a method that can prove to be an effective deterrent, just make sure that the occupants inside the home can easily exit the house in case of emergency.
